On June 11, 2025, the AMiMO cluster hosted a vibrant PhD workshop on Emerging Research in Smart Manufacturing, bringing together young researchers, academic experts, and industrial stakeholders to explore the transformative role of Digital Twins (DT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (RMS).
The event featured 10 presentations from PhD and postdoctoral researchers, covering both Digital Twin–oriented and AI-driven approaches. Topics ranged from energy-efficient manufacturing and the validation of data-driven twins to federated learning for prognostics, predictive maintenance, decision support systems, and advanced optimization techniques.
The workshop attracted broad interest, with a strong on-site presence complemented by 21 participants joining remotely, underlining the international reach of the AMiMO community.
As a European cluster, AMiMO brings together five cutting-edge projects—MODAPTO, MARS, MODUL4R, ONE4ALL, and DMaaST—all working towards the shared vision of flexible, data-driven, and sustainable manufacturing. Among them, MODAPTO plays a central role in advancing the concept of reconfigurable and human-centric smart factories, leveraging digital technologies to foster resilience and adaptability.
By providing a platform for early-stage researchers to showcase their innovative work, the workshop not only strengthened the network of future experts in smart manufacturing but also reinforced AMiMO’s mission: to accelerate Europe’s transition towards next-generation, sustainable, and human-centric production systems.
