MODAPTO at Factory Booster Day 2024: Showcasing Innovation in Manufacturing

On 18th September 2024, the Factory Booster Day was held at the historic Mirafiori campus in Turin, Italy, bringing together over 1,500 participants, both in person and remotely via the Metaverse. This annual event, organised by Stellantis, is dedicated to accelerating innovation in the manufacturing sector by addressing complex challenges within its production plants.

The event brought together suppliers, start-ups, research institutes, and civil society organisations, offering a unique platform for collaboration and knowledge sharing. It focused on shaping future products and exploring solutions aimed at improving energy efficiency, health and safety, environmental protection, and quality across Stellantis’ manufacturing environment.

Factory Booster Day 2024 Highlights:

  • 93 proposed solutions from 63 suppliers to address 58 challenges faced by Stellantis production plants.
  • 49 physical demonstrations on-site.
  • Featured topics included energy/CO2 reduction, artificial intelligence and digital twin technologies, safety improvements, automated internal logistics, and quality enhancement of parts.
  • Over 1,500 participants from Stellantis and its partners attended the event.

Some standout solutions selected for further development included:

  • Detection of loose materials in BEV battery packs.
  • Exoskeletons and automation for underbody work.
  • AI-enabled maintenance chatbots.
  • AI-driven grading of emergency work orders.
  • Energy consumption reduction strategies.

MODAPTO’s Participation:

In this context, MODAPTO was showcased as a key contributor to addressing these challenges. CRF (Centro Ricerche Fiat), a major partner in MODAPTO, presented the project’s achievements over its first 18 months, highlighting how MODAPTO’s innovative platform can be applied in modern production environments.

CRF’s Process Integration and Factory Sustainability department hosted a dedicated stand at the event, showcasing several key aspects of MODAPTO’s contribution to the manufacturing industry:

  • Integrability: The MODAPTO platform’s ability to seamlessly integrate with existing software systems in production environments.
  • Reconfiguration Capabilities: The platform’s flexible design and reconfiguration capabilities, allowing manufacturing systems to adapt to new requirements.
  • Use Case Application: A demonstration of the MODAPTO Pilot3 robotised kitting system, focusing on automating logistics, circular manufacturing processes, and the assembly and disassembly of automotive parts.
  • Transferability: The potential to apply MODAPTO’s solutions across various manufacturing sectors beyond automotive.

Factory Booster Day 2024 provided an excellent dissemination opportunity for the MODAPTO consortium, enabling international collaboration and knowledge sharing. The project’s alignment with several key manufacturing challenges at Stellantis, particularly in the areas of AI, automation, and sustainability, underscored its potential for industrial application and future development.

As MODAPTO enters its next phase, the consortium is excited to continue advancing flexible and sustainable manufacturing, contributing to the digital transformation of the industry.
